Until my daughter and her husband have children, I’ll paint their furry kids. Here’s Blitzen. And although I have my doubts, he is supposedly a Miniature Schnauzer–a Schnoodle more likely, but a very laid-back guy.

Colorado

In beautiful Colorado for the last few days…and the Aspen are gorgeous! Had my requisite Beau Jo’s pizza two nights ago and am already Jones’in for another one. Best pizza in, well, I can’t say in the world because the pizza I had in Florence was amazing, but it’s darn good! My niece and soon to be nephew also let me make a few images with them, which I’ll post when I get home. Thanks for lookin!

Home again, home again…

GA school was amazing! Ken Sklute was as generous in encouragement as he was in what he taught–which was immense. Although our class was pretty good sized, we each received individual attention and critique–a Herculean feat for Ken since we all had different “issues.” To my new GA school friends, thank you for your knowledge and patience. I look forward to seeing all y’all again!

Starting Sunday, I’ll be in beautiful Helen, GA for five days soaking up info on lighting techniques. I’m super excited to get my “tog on” and hang out with like minded people! Would you give me a shout if you’d like to be a model for me once I get back? I’ll post more info, but I’m sure I’ll be wanting to apply what I’ve learned and try to capture something Merit worthy–competition time is right around the corner!

My only regret is that I couldn’t muster the energy to hang out with y’all on Sunday and soak up a bit of your expertise! Big hugs to you both and I look forward to spending time with you again!

We’ll be taking a little break during the month of August. I’ve successfully wrapped up everyone’s images and can take a much needed break. Okay, so I’m trippin’! Sarah and DeWayne are getting married September 3rd–so it’ll be crazy busy–I just won’t be shooting any new clients this month…unless of course, you call…

So happy that other photographers are interested in becoming Certified! I’ve had more calls in the last week than I had all year as a liaison for Certified Professional Photographers. Wow! It’s been incredibly busy here in the studio. We’ve had so much fun and I feel very blessed to have been entrusted with capturing your memories. I’m still working on how to best present information on Carrollton’s finest vendors for all things bridal, but it may well include Newnan vendors. Patty Gironda, owner of Casa Bella Bed and Breakfast in Newnan, and I are working on some really exciting ideas! Patty is a lovely, wonderful lady who makes her guests (and friends) feel warmly welcomed–from clean and inviting spaces to delicious, inspired food and beverage, she’s got it going ON!

While I’ve experienced a bit of a hiccup on the website transition, I am hopeful you’ll visit the blog often to see the who’s, what’s and, well, the whatever’s that are happening here in the studio and “about town.”

Just a reminder to incoming Seniors, there is still time to book a Senior Experience. Give me your ideas on what you are about and together we’ll make images that are truly unique to your personality! And so happy! Those of you who kept your fingers crossed (from previous post ) deserve a huge thanks! Two of my entries in the International Photographic Competition merited! What does that mean? Well, it means
The Photographic Exhibitions Committee (PEC) of PPA use[d] the 12 elements below to judge the images. These elements are the “gold standard” used to define a merit image. PEC trains judges to be mindful of these elements when judging images to the PPA merit level and to be placed in the International Print Exhibit at Imaging USA, the annual convention. The use of these 12 elements connects the modern practice of photography and its photographers to the historical practice of photography begun nearly two centuries ago.

Twelve elements have been defined as necessary for the success of an art piece or image. Any image, art piece, or photograph will reveal some measure of all twelve elements, while a visually superior example will reveal obvious consideration of each one

The Twelve elements listed below are in accordance to their importance.

Impact is the sense one gets upon viewing an image for the first time. Compelling images evoke laughter, sadness, anger, pride, wonder or another intense emotion. There can be impact in any of these twelve elements.

Technical excellence is the print quality of the image itself as it is presented for viewing. Retouching, manipulation, sharpness, exposure, printing, mounting, and correct color are some items that speak to the qualities of the physical print.

Creativity is the original, fresh, and external expression of the imagination of the maker by using the medium to convey an idea, message or thought.

Style is defined in a number of ways as it applies to a creative image. It might be defined by a specific genre or simply be recognizable as the characteristics of how a specific artist applies light to a subject. It can impact an image in a positive manner when the subject matter and the style are appropriate for each other, or it can have a negative effect when they are at odds.

Composition is important to the design of an image, bringing all of the visual elements together in concert to express the purpose of the image. Proper composition holds the viewer in the image and prompts the viewer to look where the creator intends. Effective composition can be pleasing or disturbing, depending on the intent of the image maker.

Presentation affects an image by giving it a finished look. The mats and borders used, either physical or digital, should support and enhance the image, not distract from it.

Color Balance supplies harmony to an image. An image in which the tones work together, effectively supporting the image, can enhance its emotional appeal. Color balance is not always harmonious and can be used to evoke diverse feelings for effect.

Center of Interest is the point or points on the image where the maker wants the viewer to stop as they view the image. There can be primary and secondary centers of interest. Occasionally there will be no specific center of interest, when the entire scene collectively serves as the center of interest.

Lighting—the use and control of light—refers to how dimension, shape and roundness are defined in an image. Whether the light applied to an image is manmade or natural, proper use of it should enhance an image.

Subject Matter should always be appropriate to the story being told in an image.

Technique is the approach used to create the image. Printing, lighting, posing, capture, presentation media, and more are part of the technique applied to an image.

Story Telling refers to the image’s ability to evoke imagination. One beautiful thing about art is that each viewer might collect his own message or read her own story in an image.
